ONE-SHOT STORY: SCIENCE-MATH SERIES

Episode 3. Three Parts of Solid Blood

“Ouch! My finger is bleeding. Huhuhu,” Johnny started to cry.

Grandpa came and said, “Hey Johnny dear, why are you crying?”

“Grandpa! I just opened a can, but I failed it. Look, my finger is bleeding.”

Grandpa rushed to grab Johnny’s finger. He washed that little finger with the water. “It is over, dear. No more tears, okay?”

“Hey, my bleeding is over! The blood stopped, Grandpa! How come?” Johnny looked so delightful. But at the same time, he wondered about his stopped blood.

Grandpa answered the little boy’s question, “Dear, the solid part of our blood contains THREE components: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Each component has an important duty.”

“I want to know its duty, Grandpa! Tell me more, please.” Johnny still wanted to listen more about his blood.

Grandpa continued his answer while putting a smile on his face, “Red blood cells carry oxygen through our body, while white blood cells keep our body healthy. And to help ourselves when there is a cut or a wound, platelets do their job well.”

Johnny’s lips shaped O. He also nodded his head.

“Now you know that you have recovered from bleeding because of your blood mechanism. It is good, isn’t it?”

Johnny nodded again, “Yeah! Very good. Thanks, Grandpa. Now I know more about my blood.”
